The Exmoor Pony
Although referred to as a Breed
- could be described as a "Race".
There has been very little human manipulation of their breeding.
All Exmoor's are virtually IDENTICAL in colour, markings, shape,
etc.
They are nature's design for a WILD PONY, arriving in Britain some
130,000 years ago.
A rare breed, with less than 1000 world-wide.
Some 300 mares produce around 130 foals annually.

Features:-
Stand at
between 11.2hh and 12.3hh
Sure footed
with strong legs and hard 'blue' hooves
Colours range
from bay, brown or dun with dark legs, mane and tail.
Pale 'mealy'
markings on the muzzle, around the eyes, inside the flanks and under the belly.
A short woolly
undercoat insulates the pony, whilst the long waterproof outercoat, with strategically
placed whorls keep him dry
Long mane and
forelock. Tail set low to act as a "water/snow chute"
Eyes have
protective fleshy rims (toad eyes) and short ears
Large, well
rooted teeth for grazing coarse plants
Deep and wide
chest for plenty of room for heart and lungs
