The Icelandic HorsePersonality... The Icelandic Horse is bred for Rideability - not beauty. It should be courageous, resourceful, co-operative, willing and robust.
The horses stand at between 12.3hh and 13.1hh, being rectangular and well proportioned. Judges look for a clean-cut and expressive heads held on a long neck, although the breed is characterised by a rather large head held on a short thick neck! The horse has a heavy mane, forlock and tail. Colouring ranges from course grey to dun.
The Icelandic Horse not only does walk, trot, canter and gallop... It does the tölt - a type of running walk, and the FLUGSKEID - a flying pace that is highly valued, but not always present. |
