The Haflinger

History

• Native ponies of the Alpine farms of Austria
• Originated from the crossing of the native Tyrolean pony with the Arab
• Has over 100 years of official breeding history
• First imported into Britain in the 1960's
• Was originally bred to stand at 14-15hh
• Breed Society Haflinger Society of  GB (GBHS)

• Typically stand at 14.1 hh

• Short, slightly dished head, large lively eyes, fine nostrils, small ears

• Strong well positioned neck, not too short

• Broad, deep chest, broad loins, muscular croup

• Clean limbs, hard hooves, strong fore-arms, good 2nd thigh

• Light, Middle, Liver or Red Chestnut in colour with Flaxen mane and tail.

• Very versatile, suitable for a small child up to a fully grown man.
