isn't what I would call a story, but I want it to be written down as one
of the best things to happen to me.
I used to be a girl who rode once a week, helped every single day she could, and wanted a horse more than anything. Well, none of that has really changed, except that now I help at one of the best yards anybody could ever work at. It started when I got the 'If Wishes Were Horses' videos for Christmas about three years ago. |
|
| In this video there was a feature about a
stunt team who travelled around the country jousting, trick-riding, wild-westing
and most of all, classical riding.
Many people have this video and so will know who I mean. When I first saw it, I really wanted to do that kind of thing and I never knew I would. So when the stunt team came to do a show in my village, I could hardly believe it. We found out after the brilliant performance that my mum was going to go and ride up at his yard so it wasn't very long until we went up and had a lesson too. The horses were beautiful Spanish-bred geldings but we got to see a lot of their stallions, mares and yearlings too. The next day, my sister, my friend and I, tried our luck and went up to the yard to see if they wanted any help. |

Since going up there (in the last eighteen months) we have progressed to exercising their horses, helping (and once- riding) at their shows and learned lots in the process. We even wangled our way into bringing their two Welsh ponies (featured in the 'Horse&Pony' magazine) down to our house to look after for the winter- along with a little miniature stallion called Jo-jo. At the moment I am even thinking of buying a Spanish horse from them but I don't think I really need to and, like lots of pony-mad children, I haven't got enough money. I know lots of people would want to do something like this. I used to dream of it and now, by persisting to make a go of it, I am being rewarded. I still can't believe how lucky I am. |
