'My Little Champion'

Chapter 1

"Wake up darling, your father and I have super news for you." My mother yelled as she burst into my room. I looked at my clock. 8.30 it read.

"Why so early mum?." I asked as she opened my curtains and started pulling the duvet off me.

"Hurry, Ami, we'll tell you over breakfast." And as quick as she entered she left.

Slowly I pulled myself out of bed, got dressed and walked downstairs. There on the breakfast table was my two gleaming parents.

"What?" I asked as I began to pour my cereal

"What's going on?"

"Your father and I have decided that you have proved to us that you are responsible to own your own pony.

"Oh my god. I have been dreaming of this since 5 yrs ago when I started riding when I was 8. My own pony!"

"And that's not all" My father said. "We have found you a nice pony at a nice price too. Its Mr. Browns pony, you know that grey nag."  My father had never really liked horses.

"Sixty pounds he cost, see what good bargains you get when you shop around, Ami"

I was so happy. I'm a horse-owner. But something is in the back of my mind which I cant quite get at.

"After breakfast we shall go and see him." I immediately went to get changed.

"Yippeeeeeeeeeeee" I shouted all the way up the stairs. Half hour later we arrived at Mr. Browns old farm.

"Morning Miss Ami, you come to see the 'orse then 'ave ya?". I nodded, too excited to speak.

"Right this way then Miss" Mr. Brown led us round the back to a dark old barn. "There he is" said Mr. Brown pointing into the corner. At first I couldn't see anything but as Mr. Brown led the pony out I could feel my worst nightmare coming true. As the farmer yanked at a thin lead rope, a small pony of around 13.2hh, just a bag of bones, infested in lice, followed on. I felt tears in my eyes. Poor thing. I just stared at him through the water in my eyes. In the distance I heard the farmer telling my parents that the 'old' 'orse was 3 yrs old and ready to be broken. I turned to look at my parents. They seemed so pleased how could I tell them this horse could die any minute.

"She so happy she's going to cry." Somebody said. I wasn't sure who because my mind was elsewhere. What was I going to do with this pony?
