'Hold On Tight!'

I had been riding for just over a year and could walk, trot, canter and do a small crosspole.  I got to my riding centre to find that I was allowed to ride Merry Maid (Merry for short). She is the fastest pony I have ever known. When  you ask her to canter, she bombs off with you around the school.

When it came to my ride I was excited. It started to rain lightly and we were all asked to canter one at a time. Guess what happened?
You got it. We were going faster and faster and I naturally held on to the saddle in sheer fright. Then with no warning she stopped. I was flung on to her neck but stayed on.

I have now been riding over three years and have never ridden Merry since!
