Stable Vice Questionnaire
Joanna Brewer is doing her HND final in Animal Science/behaviour specialising in stable vices. She would be very grateful for any HorseData visitors to copy the form below into a Word document, fill it in and send it to her at dolfool@hotmail.com.
Reference definitions: Box walking is when a horse continually walks around its box/stable; this is evident from track marks in its bedding.
Crib biting is when a horse appears to gulp in mouthfuls of air, sounding rather as though it is belching. It has to do this whilst holding onto an object, such as, stable door or fence etc.
Wind sucking is very similar to crib biting although the horse doesnt have to have hold of an object.
Weaving is when the horse rocks back and forth on its forelegs, swaying from side to side, usually over a stable door but can also be seen inside the stable.
