Description: Perennial,
biennial, or winter annual herbs; leaves mainly basal, alternate,
simple; flowers small, reddish; fruit
a reddish brown.
Symptoms
may include: Staggering,
inability to rise, muscular spasm and abnormal breathing.
Notes: Taste
of the plant is not unattractive to animals and can be eaten in quantity
with no apparent ill effects. Few reports of poisoning in horses in
modern times.
