Sponsorship Needed
Sarah Spainhour, aged 16
The above pictures were all from the Blowing Rock, NC show where Sarah was the Grand Children's Jumper Champion for the two weeks. Sarah needs help! She is one of the most promising young riders in the USA but she hasn't any money. Her family continue to support her all the way but they are not rich people. Please read about her and help her if you can:
Sarah and Jon
Sarah has been riding since she was 3 years old. Sarah has always loved horses and rode every single pony/horse she could get her hands on. Whenever she fell off, she always jumped right back on. Her pony had soundness issues off and on, so she got a chance to ride some new ponies. She bought a green horse a few years ago, who has been very slow to come along. Because of this, Sarah showed very little for the next year. Two years ago she made a life changing decision to come to Camden, SC. This way Sarah could ride multiple horses daily to expand her experience. Then last year in Mississippi, she was asked to come and ride a jumper for her trainer. Sarah immediately fell in love with him (the horse - not the trainer!) and her grandmother agreed to buy him for her (there is no way she could have otherwise afforded him). Sarah has worked so hard this year. Her riding has really improved and still continues to improve. She has worked every day...cleaning stalls, tack, horses....it hasn't all been fun, but she is a better horseperson because of it. She is not one of the "princesses" who has 5 horses and sits at the ring talking, while their groom holds their horse.
Sarah and Jon in Atlanta
During the past year Sarah has been alternating between 1st and 2nd in the Zone (for Children's jumpers). Her results have included:
She was invited to compete in the Stateline National Children's Medal, North American League jumper finals in Harrisburg, PA, and Washington jumper finals at the Washington International Horse Show. These are the hardest shows in the country, taking all the top 30 riders. Just to be invited was a privilege. But she didn't just make up the numbers - she was placed at each one, coming 5th, 2nd and 7th!
She never dreamed of being placed in ANY of them! In her own words "My horse is awesome and I am so happy with him, but we just cannot afford this sport. My parents have been so great to help me with EVERY LITTLE THING that they possibly could, and I am very appreciative. I hope to continue my success in the show ring."
