Arena Mirror Safety

Take care when working in arenas that have mirrors installed. The glass will break if hit hard enough. Below are a few pointers to help avoid accidents:

  • Introduce young or inexperienced horses to mirrors slowly. Let them work out what the mirrors are.
  • Lunge your horse as far away from the arena mirrors as possible.
  • Set the track away from the mirrors using jump poles or dressage boards until your horse is happy with the mirrors.
  • Don't jump too closely to mirrors.
  • Do not let your horse touch the mirror to check it out. Parts of a lunge cavesson or double bridle could break the glass.
