Always wear a hard hat for riding
(the hat should be done up and meets current safety standards) and possibly lunging. Even turning out and bringing in a horse can be hazardous unless
you are very confident in the handling of the horse.
In wet weather a hat can keep you warm and in sunny weather
a hat can prevent sunburn.
A top with a collar can prevent sunburn to the back of the
neck.
Necklaces, bracelets, rings and earrings can get caught up
easily as can long hair that has not been tied back.
Light coloured jodhpurs or breeches are much more easily
seen in the dark.
Over sized jumpers can get caught up easily.
Hard boots or ones with steel toe caps can prevent injuries
to the feet.
Try to avoid footwear with buckles and flaps as these can
get caught in stirrups.
Gloves should be worn when riding or handling horses.
