When pulling
your horses mane, dab oil of cloves along the skin first, as this has a
numbing effect. Dentist used it when pulling teeth out, many years ago.

To calculate how much weight your
horse can carry:
Take
your horse's weight in pounds, divide by six, divide that by 14 - this equals
the maximum weight of the rider in stones (remember to add 2st to your body
weight to account for the tack).
